Not even close. Despite any "problems," Apple products are so far out ahead of their competitors that every time they release a new product they either revolutionize the market or they create an entirely new market. Much like the PC market, we've become so accustomed to the limitations of more conventional cell phones -- limited functionality, little or no memory, poor battery life, rapid battery degeneration, terrible ergonomics -- that we accept them as the price of doing business. Along comes the iPhone and it revolutionizes mobile communications, but we complain because it isn't perfect.
If Apple products are overrated, well then all other computers, mp3 players and cell phones (not to mention animated feature films ... Pixar Entertainment) must be virtually worthless. Overrated or not, Apple products are infinitely superior to anything else out there.
By MildlyMisanthropic , Posted August 29, 2008 8:19 AMCompared with stuff that uses MicroSoft garbage? Hardly.
By WTF , Posted August 29, 2008 8:33 AMSpeaking of "Overrated" who watched "The One" last night?
By Anonymous , Posted August 29, 2008 8:46 AMLast summer I fell for the hype and switched my Dell PC for a Mac, along with a new Ipod. Both have been nothing but problematic and bitter disappointments. I can't wait to switch back to quality technology. Apple is rotten.
By CAC , Posted August 29, 2008 8:53 AMIt makes me wonder what kind of testing procedures they have if they are having problems already. Their quality assurance testing leaves ALOT to be desired.
By jev , Posted August 29, 2008 8:59 AMAs all fruit buyers know, occasionally you are going to get an Apple with a worm in it. And as all hackers know, it is very difficult to put a worm into an Apple because of its Unix-based operating system.
By Chaos Theorist , Posted August 29, 2008 9:31 AMthe question is ill-posed. Since the problems are with Apple's new iPhones, the question should be if the iPhone, not all of Apple's products, is overrated. Yes, the iPhone is overrated, but, for example, the ipod is not.
By aaron , Posted August 29, 2008 10:31 AMThe iPhone is not overrated but it does have its share of annoyances. Its biggest drawback? The clunky, barely usable iTunes that it's paired up with.
By carlos m. , Posted August 29, 2008 11:19 AMWhoa whoa whoa, don't judge all Apple products based on the iPhone. I made the switch over to Mac from PC a couple years ago, and I've never looked back. Just because one product has had problems doesn't mean they all do. Maybe when Apple has been producing iPhones as long as they have computers, then the technology will be vastly improved.
