At Metro Center, Bye Bye 'Bodies'; W.Va. Beckons
Map It:
THEY MAY NOT BE as politically provocative as advertisements about abortion or the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but ads promoting "Bodies: The Exhibition" throughout the Metrorail system have raised eyebrows in recent weeks. The ads — which have also run in Express — have been almost impossible to avoid at Metro Center, among other places, with images of inside-out corpses greeting travelers as they transfer. Some commuters say the ads are an eyesore.
From an Express letter to the editor, May 14:
Corpses Are Not ArtThis week, those with similar views can breathe a sigh of relief: The ads are gone, replaced with promotional posters for West Virginia The "Wild and Wonderful" state is "calling" the crushed commuter population of D.C. for quick summer retreats.
I'm really getting disgusted by seeing the ads for "Bodies ... The Exhibition" every time I go to Metro Center. I arrive after eating in the morning, and I see these pictures of mutilated corpses. The people who actually present this exhibition are psychopaths. Who in their right mind likes being around corpses, let alone mutilating them and putting them on display as "art"?
