Metro Center's Underbelly Is All Red

Map It:  Metro Center

THE LOWER LEVEL platform at Metro Center, serving the Orange and Blue lines, has never been a very inspiring place to wait for a train. The upper level, serving the Red Line, gets the beautiful vaulted coffered ceilings. The mezzanine that looms over the lower-level platform makes the area feel gloomy and cavernous.

Now, as part of Metro's new push to install red flashing platform edge lights, the lower level of Metro Center is getting red all over. Commuters this morning discovered that the red flashing lights are also casting the low ceiling in a flashing shade of red.

Think of it as downtown's new red-light district, just without the sex.
