Verizon Center Getting Shiny New Scoreboard
Map It:
WITH FINANCING ASSISTANCE FROM THE D.C. COUNCIL secured this past spring, the Verizon Center is set to get a number of upgrades. And the process has begun to replace the arena's centerpiece — its scoreboard — as part of the $50 million improvements package.
Recently, work crews started dismantling the old scoreboard and will replace it with a new state-of-the-art high-definition one hanging high above center court, just in time for the start of the Wizards' season this fall and for the facility's upcoming 10-year anniversary in December. A full anniversary campaign will kick off in late September.
Here are the specs on the Verizon Center's new scoreboard, according to an announcement:
Over a 1,000 feet of linear [light-emitting diode] fascia will bring to life the entire upper level of the arena bowl, while 400 feet of full motion signage will continue to animate the lower level of the arena bowl. Four additional LED displays will also light the top corners of the arena bowl with statistics, 3D graphics and advertisements, thus completing the entire digital display system. Here are some more specs, by the numbers ...
» Height: 14 feet, 5 inches
» Width: 25 feet, 2 inches
» Pixel-Pitch: 6 mm
» Screen Area: 365 square feet
» Resolution: 736 x 1280 dot resolution
» Possible Colors: 68.7 billion
That's a lot of colors.
The scoreboard is being created and installed by ANC Sports Enterprises and Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Vision Systems.

Let's also keep in mind that the scoreboard will be ready in time for the Capitals' season, home opener October 6th, as well.
