Swastikas Found on Dorm Room Doors at GW

GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY officials have started an investigation and issued a condemnation after five swastikas — the symbol of Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party — were found on two campus dorm room doors.

Four of the swastikas were found over several days on the door of a Jewish freshman, the most recent discovered Sunday morning, spokeswoman Michelle Sherrard told The Post's Valerie Strauss. Another swastika was found on a door in a different dorm, she said.

Sherrard said campus police were investigating. In a statement released today, university president Steven Knapp denounced the incidents:

We do not condone, and we will not tolerate, the posting of images or texts that vilify any religious, ethnic, or racial group. I remain confident that such acts do not represent the sentiments of our student body.
The GW student newspaper, The Hatchet, reports that the freshman who is the apparent target of most of the drawings said she is planning to contact the Anti-Defamation League for assistance.
