Idol Chatter: The Indestructible Kristy Lee
Express' Greg Barber opines on the phenomenon that is Kristy Lee Cook on "American Idol."
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY gave her 500-1 odds of winning "American Idol." Each week, she's the reigning choice of those who do their own "Whose-gig-is-up?" prognostications.
Despite it all, Kristy Lee Cook is still a contender. And few seem to be more surprised than she is.
"I've pretty much been the last man standing out onstage at every elimination night," she told host Ryan Seacrest last week. "That's a lot of stress. ... It's really scary."
It's true. Each week, she hovers next to the marked-for-dismissal Idolite like a platinum-headed specter of death. Amanda Overmyer. David Hernandez. Asia'h Epperson. What they all had in common: a somber-looking Kristy, certain her time was nigh.
Her performances are roundly panned by the judges, especially Simon Cowell, who can't make his distaste for her work any more plain.
How does she do it? Is it a horde of fans? Ogling old men? Voodoo? Whatever her trick, it appears to be working.

Every season, there is at least one idol contestant whose staying power defies logic and common sense. I am not sure who is voting for Kristy Lee Cook, but I sure hope she says buh-bye soon!

I predict she will give the performance of her life tonight. Unfortunately it won't help avoid elimination. Maybe the silver lining is that some 'well off' viewer will donate the money to buy back her horse!
By sheriff , Posted March 25, 2008 1:56 PMShe is pretty, she shows "promise." I think everyone would like her to do well, but so far she is not performing up to snuff. I don't think she will last much longer, but I could be wrong! Look how long Sanjaya lasted. Someone is voting for her!!

She probably gets a lot of vote from country music lovers, teen-age boys and dirty old men. If she can stick around and do well singing a couple more country style songs, she may just get another shot at a recording contract. Kelly Pickler hasn't done so bad for herself.
